The first part of competitor analysis is to identify a portfolio of keywords and then type them into a search engine such as Google, msn or Yahoo. Net Visibility will look at who is successful i.e. gaining first page rankings on a regular basis and assess what they have done to make their site successful. Results of the analysis stage may include what keywords have they chosen, what meta tags have been implemented or which search engines are they really successful on.

An open mind approach of simply viewing what is working for and what is not working for your competitors is the simplest means of creating a successful website. Care should be taken though to remember that this process is competitor analysis and not competitor copying or competitor content stealing!

The aim of good ongoing competitor analysis is to develop your website to a superior level for usage, information supply and marketing prowess. Your target is to beat your main competitors. To do this you must be listed with all the major search engines and achieve high rankings in them and have a high number of quality links to your site.

Competitor analysis, like any good research, is never ending. From a practical point of view, Net Visibility recommends that after the initial competitor analysis is undertaken that customers focus their energies on their own website and search engine optimisation. Net Visibility produces monthly reports for all customers indicating the progress made during that period. Objectives are then set for the following month and may include an element of competitor analysis.

Most customers undertake a detailed formal review of their search engine optimisation every six months. This may include re-analysing the keyword portfolio, agreeing new target markets or assessing a new web competitor. It is at this point that we recommend undertaking competitor analysis. It will be more meaningful because you will have gained some rankings yourself and could be the dominant web player. If you are not then further action and further competitor analysis needs to take place.

Net Visibility offer a wide range of Internet marketing and Search Engine Optimisation services that are designed to put you at the top of your market and keep you there through competitor analysis.
